The basic principles
The basic principles of healthy eating are relatively simple:
- Foods are often categorised into five main groups according to their nutritional content:vegetables, bread and cereals, fruit, dairy products and meat (including alternatives to meat such as fish, tofu, etc.). Each food group is unique and provides specific nutritional elements. It is therefore important to eat a variety of foods from each of the main food groups every day.
- Eat moderate portions of all foods, except for vegetables, which can be eaten in greater quantities – except in certain cases and as long as they are not over-seasoned and are cooked in a healthy way.
- Remember that taking your time when eating and appreciating what you eat are important, among other things, in helping you to realise how much you have actually eaten.
